Intense Pulsed Light Photorejuvenation

Intense Pulsed Light Photorejuvenation (Palomar Estelux)

Intense pulsed light (IPL) photorejuvenation is an innovative, non-invasive treatment that offers specific benefits for unsightly sun-damaged skin. In most cases, sun damage manifests itself as freckles, fine lines, and brown age or liver spots. These symptoms can appear on the face, hands, neck, chest, back, and elsewhere.

IPL photorejuvenation works quickly and safely by stimulating the production of collagen, which has the effect of decreasing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. While conventional cosmetic lasers emit a fixed wavelength of light, IPL therapy works differently. Because they produce a broad spectrum of light in a range of wavelengths, IPL devices can be customized by a trained IPL physician or technician to suit specific skin types and conditions.

Importantly, IPL technology improves the superficial appearance of targeted skin while also delivering beneficial thermal energy to deeper issue. After a series of treatments, you can see a significant reduction of unwanted pigmentation and the appearance of smoother, revitalized skin.

Prior to treatment, the IPL device operator applies a cool gel to the surface of the skin that is to be treated. Next, he or she moves a small, hand-controlled device across the treatment area. The ensuing process produces a slight sensation, which can be counteracted with topical anaesthetic if desired. Following treatment, any treated lesions will gradually flake off and disappear in a matter of days.

Patients typically undergo an average of five IPL photorejuvenation treatments, which are most effective when spread out at three-week intervals. Remarkably, each virtually painless treatment takes only 15 minutes. In most cases, patients experience no peeling, scabbing, or redness, meaning they can resume their everyday activities immediately after treatment.
